We are in the process of switching banks right now and it is a bit of an inconvenience and I started to question if it was worth it to switch when my husband called to say his $20 interac purchase with his Scotiabank atm card was rejected. He tried the savings and chequeing accounts and was rejected and rejected. I assured him we have well over twenty dollars in each of those accounts and verified this online. He confirmed that the password is correct and that the swipe strip was working. We checked our purchases for the day to ensure that we were nowhere near our daily limit and then I called Scotia to find out what happened. I was told that they have started deactivating all cards without chips. Without notice, beware your card could work today and not work tomorrow.

Kenneth J. The charge was noted as "passbook update."

The Scotiabank website lists their "Getting There" account as fee-free.

From Scotiabank's "Getting There" web page:

Paperless - no charge

Paper Statement - no charge

Paper Statement with Cheque Image Return - no charge

Passbook - no charge

After reviewing my children's accounts, I realized that Scotiabank has been ripping off all of their accounts for years.

Scotiabank's website states that the "Getting There" account is
"an excellent way for minors to learn the basics of good money management by saving each month."

The real lesson Scotiabank is teaching our children: "Our bank deceives you to rip you off from an early
age. Get used to it while you're still in diapers."

So, shame on you , Scotiabank, for ripping off children. I never thought it possible for a bank to sink so low.

Scotiabank's "Getting There" account, the "There" standing for "Robbed."

-Kenneth J. We have a Scotia Gold Card, and I suppose thats ok,
but now that we are 65 years old some of the benefits are no longer
available to us Seniors. When I questioned ScotiaBank I was told it was
because of cost. Do they not realize that Seniors have more money
invested with them than our younger counterparts. We Seniors may owe
less because our mortgages are paid off, there fore not as much revenue
from us, but we still have the bulk of investments or does that not
count for anything? Well obviously it does not, and we are now treated
as nonpersons.
Benefits no longer available from Scotia Gold Visa Card Benefits Trip
Cancellation/Interruption and Travel Emergency Medical Available for
People Under 65 Years of Age Only.
Bad, Bad, Bad, ScotiaBank.
I will cancel my Gold Card A.S.A.P.
-Donald

Kenneth J.
